SEMINOLE METAL FINISHING

WITH KBS COATINGS, THE RUST STOPS HERE!
STEP # 2 : RUST BLAST APPLICATION INFORMATION

DIRECTIONS:
Surface to be treated should be free of dirt, oil, grease
and other contaminants. The cleaner the surface, the
more effective RustBlast will work. Scrape off any loose
rust, mill scale, paint, etc. and clean with a
WATER-BASED cleaner/degreaser. FOR BEST RESULTS,
Use KBS AquaKlean. Avoid any solvent-based cleaners as
they can leave an invisible residue. Liberally apply RustBlast
FULL-STRENGTH to a DRY surface using a spray bottle,
brush, roller, or backpack sprayer for larger applications.
Reapply often and as needed to keep the surface wet for a

minimum of 10 minutes for smooth or lightly rusted surfaces,
20-40 minutes for moderately rusted surfaces and 1-2 hours f
or heavily rusted or corroded surfaces. DO NOT allow surface to
dry. After treatment, rinse thoroughly with water and then allow
surface to dry completely. For removal of light corrosion or etching of non-ferrous metals (such as aluminium, brass, copper), prepare surface as above and apply RustBlast for 10-20 minutes then rinse thoroughly with water and allow surface to dry completely.

PROTECTIVE GLOVES AND EYEWEAR SHOULD BE WORN AT ALL TIMES WHEN USING THIS PRODUCT.

NOTE: Once dry, RustBlast may leave a slight powder residue which is the zinc phosphate coating. Items treated with RustBlast can remain uncoated for up to 30 days depending on environmental conditions. Ideal working temperature 55-80˚F (13-27˚C).

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

1) Why is there a white powdery substance left over after I rinse off the RustBlast?
The slight white powdery residue is zinc phosphate and RustBlast leaves that behind because it aids in adhesion of coatings such as RustSeal.

2) Can I use RustBlast when applying paints other then KBS RustSeal?
Yes. RustBlast works well as a metal prep and etch for most paints.

3) Can I use RustBlast to remove rust from equipment and tools?
Yes. Soak the tool or equipment for 30 minutes to 24 hours and rinse it off with water using a scotch brite pad. You will be left with rust free tools and equipment.

4) Do I really have to rinse off the RustBlast with water?
Yes. It is important to rinse before the RustBlast dries to avoid a heavy layer of zinc phosphate.

Keep out of reach of children. RustBlast is a strong eye and skin irritant; in case of eye or sensitive skin contact flush thoroughly with water and seek medical advice. Protective gloves and eyewear should be worn at all times.

DETAILED APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS CONTINUED BELOW
Product Description: KBS Coatings’ 3-PART SYSTEM of RustSeal
(a moisture-cured urethane), KBS AquaKlean (an industrial strength
water-based cleaner /degreaser) and KBS RustBlast (a powerful rust
remover/metal etch) is the most effective rust and corrosion prevention
system available today. RustSeal chemically bonds to bare metal to form a
permanent, moisture resistant finish that is flexible yet won't crack, chip,
or peel. Because RustSeal is moisture-cured, this superior coating is made
even stronger by continued exposure to moisture. RustSeal is also highly
resistant to some of the most aggressive chemicals such as acids, alkalis,
salts, abrasive materials, fertilizers, coal dusts, solvents, oils, and other
refined petroleum products.

ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTIVE GLOVES AND SAFETY GLASSES when using KBS Coatings’ 3-PART SYSTEM. Please heed all warning and caution notices on containers and cans.

Importance of preparation: Despite what others may lead you to believe, it does not matter how good
the rust prevention product is if the surface is not prepared properly. Organic and corrosion
contamination will block and inhibit any coating from penetrating and adhering to the surface.  Simply
put, the cleaner the surface, the more effective RustBlast will work and the deeper RustSeal will penetrate and permanently seal the surface.

Surface Preparation: FOR BEST END RESULTS, apply RustSeal to clean, dry, bare metals with good surface profiles such as rusted, sandblasted, porous, and abraded textures it can "bite" into.  Newly sandblasted metal surfaces usually require little preparation other than blowing off loose dust and are the ideal choice for direct RustSeal applications. For all other rusted metal surfaces, remove any LOOSE rust and corrosion using a wire brush or wire wheel.  Surface contaminants including oil, grease, and road film must be removed with AquaKlean.  AVOID any solvent-based cleaners as they can leave an invisible residue which can affect the RustSeal adhesion. For maximum performance, follow with RustBlast to remove surface rust, etch the metal, and leave a zinc phosphate coating (a white powdery film) for superior RustSeal adhesion.

For all smooth or shiny metal surfaces, we recommend a light scuffing with 400 grit sandpaper followed by AquaKlean and RustBlast systems.
For previously painted surfaces, remove all paint via chemical stripping followed by AquaKlean and RustBlast systems. If unable to remove any or all paint from metal surfaces, lightly scuff with 400 grit sandpaper followed by AquaKlean. NOTE: If RustSeal is applied over an existing painted coating and not bare metal, it may not permanently seal rust but it will provide a durable, moisture-resistant coating.

Use Rust Seal Application:  Always work in a well ventilated area.  Ideal RustSeal application temperatures are 55-82F (13-28C). Use only in moderate to dry atmospheric conditions i.e. 60% humidity or lower. AVOID applying RustSeal in extreme humid conditions because it is impossible to keep the metal dry and bubbling and improper adhesion may occur.

Do Not Shake Can. STIR contents thoroughly each time you use it making sure the pigments are well dispersed.
DO NOT PAINT OUT OF CAN.  Dispense a working amount of RustSeal into a separate container (steel or glass is best) and seal can immediately. Unused paint should NEVER be put back into the can as it will shorten its shelf life and cause pressure buildup possibly popping the lid.  Keep can groove free of paint by using a scoop or KBS Paint Spout. Use plastic wrap between the lid and the top of the can to stop metal to metal contact as RustSeal is extremely strong and tough and can permanently seal the lid. Store can in a cool dry place.

Apply RustSeal to prepared surfaces by brush, roller, or spray equipment. Brush marks will level out as if sprayed. IF SPRAYING, ALWAYS WEAR AN AIR SUPPLIED RESPIRATOR: NIOSH/MSHA approved organic vapor particulate respirator. Spray pressure of 35-45 psi (250-330kpa) for siphon/pot guns and 25-35psi (170-250kpa) for gravity/top container guns. Thinning is not generally required, but if needed 5%-10% is normally adequate. Use KBS #1 Thinner only.
Always apply a MINIMUM of 2 full coats (2 mils each) for general applications. For marine or industrial applications, apply a minimum of 3 full coats (3 mils each). Recoating can be done once the first or consecutive coat is dry-to-touch. FOR BEST RESULTS, always apply coats consecutively within 6 hours of each coat curing. Average cure times are 2-4 hours, depending on humidity levels.  REMEMBER: The more humidity or moisture in the air, the quicker RustSeal dries.

Topcoating RustSeal:  RustSeal will need to be topcoated in areas that are exposed to direct UV rays (sunlight). Continual exposure to UV light will cause RustSeal to become cosmetically altered or discolored. The rust protection, however, will not be destroyed and will remain intact.

RustSeal can be topcoated with any paint within 6 hours of its cure. If RustSeal has cured for more than 6 hours, scuff the surface with 400 grit sandpaper and then topcoat.
In areas not exposed to UV light, RustSeal will seal and encapsulate just like a topcoat.

Clean Up: KBS #1 Thinner is ideal for clean up.  IMPORTANT: RustSeal must be cleaned up before it dries. It cannot be removed by any solvent once cured.  Remember to always wear protective gloves to avoid skin contact and temporary staining. If skin contact accidentally occurs, immediately remove with KBS #1 Thinner followed by soap and water.

STEP # 3 : RUST SEAL APPLICATION INFORMATION
STEP # 1 : AQUAKLEAN APPLICATION INFORMATION

AQUAKLEAN SHOULD ALWAYS BE DILUTED WITH WATER.
NOTE: The warmer the water used, the more effective and powerful the cleaning action of AquaKlean.
Effective dilution rates will vary according to the type and degree of contaminants as well as surface
materials. AquaKlean may also be used in power washing equipment.

PROTECTIVE RUBBER GLOVES AND SAFETY GLASSES SHOULD BE WORN AT ALL TIMES WHEN USING THIS PRODUCT.

DIRECTIONS: For general purpose cleaning, apply liberally and wash surface for 5-10 minutes. For heavy-duty cleaning, extended soaking times up to 24 hours or more may be necessary. Use a bristle brush or scouring pad to expedite the cleaning of heavily soiled surfaces. Retreat surface as necessary until clean. DO NOT ALLOW AQUAKLEAN TO DRY before rinsing. Rinse thoroughly with water after cleaning and let dry.
NOTE: Metal surfaces cleaned with AquaKlean should always be treated with KBS RustBlast before painting to ensure proper adhesion. Follow all manufacturers directions for bewst results.
NOTE:   For all alloys and non-ferrous metals, application times and dilution rates should be kept to a MINIMUM due to the wide variations in these materials.

CAUTION: KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.  AquaKlean is a strong eye irritant. In case of eye contact, flush immediately with large amounts of water for 15 minutes and seek medical advice. Avoid excessive skin contact. If skin contact occurs, wash off immediately with soap and water. Protective gloves and safety glasses should be worn at all times when using this product. WARNING: Hazardous ingredient Potassium Hydroxide cas# 1310-58-3. Consult MSDS for additional information.
